Didn’t know it was my obligation.

I like to read peoples blogs and comment on them if I see I have something to reply with. And when I comment on their blog, I never expect them to return the favor. I don’t go to someone’s blog and expect them or want them to comment back. If they wanna come and read my blog and comment, awesome. If they don’t want to…it’s no big deal.

When I decided to use my free domain as a blog, I didn’t know I was making returning comments my obligation. I didn’t know there was a blog handbook that says one of the rules of blog-owning is to return all comments received. If I knew that it was my duty to return all comments, even on the most boring of blogs, I wouldn’t have made a blog to begin with.

I won’t say names, but I wouldn’t doubt certain people would know who I’m talking about. But I got into a little tiff with someone and they brought up the fact that they commented on my blog a few times and I never bothered to return the favor. My simple response to this whole situation: If you expect me to return your comment, if you’re only commenting in the hopes that you’ll get something back, don’t comment. No, I’m not saying I’ll never comment on someone’s blog if they comment. But I am saying I’ll never return the favor. If I comment on a blog entry (even after you commented mine) it’s not because I’m just returning the favor…it’s because I was interested in reading and I had something to comment with.

I don’t get upset if I have no comments. I don’t go browsing peoples blogs just so I can get some comments. That’s not who I am. I right blog entries to get out my feelings, what’s on my mind. I don’t do it for the popularity, the comments, the attention.

I’m not saying returning comments is a bad thing either, or makes you less of a person. I actually respect people who do it. Like my friend Georgina. She gets so many comments, has so much to do, yet she takes the time to return them. I don’t know how she does it, but she does, and I’m sure a lot of other people do it too.
